Over the past year, CVAN has partnered with the Government Art Collection and other contemporary art networks on a unique project collecting new works by 45 visual artists for display in UK government buildings worldwide.
Art X-UK, supported by the Advisory Committee on the Government Art Collection, was a way of responding to the impact of COVID-19 on the visual arts sector. The Collection invited CVAN to nominate artists from their nine regions. After a transparent selection process a number of artists were put forward.
Art X-UK has acquired more than 90 works, supported 45 artists, and spent £230,000 across the country. Art networks were asked to consider diverse representation of artists and as a result, 24 of the artists are women, two identify as non-binary, 20 as minority ethnic, six as LGBTQ+, and four with disclosed disability.
