The Art Is Essential campaign was set up to unite the visual arts as one voice. As a sector, we needed to come together to be visible throughout 2021, to demonstrate that #ArtIsEssential – especially as we continue to learn about the long-term impact of both the pandemic and Brexit on how we live and work.

The arts and culture sector contributes £2.8 billion a year to the Treasury via taxation and provides 363,700 jobs, however recent events have exposed the delicate ecology of our sector leaving it vulnerable. We need to ensure that policy and decision-makers are considering the sector’s needs and that they see the far-reaching impact the visual arts have on our communities, as well as the contribution they make to the UK economy.

#ArtIsEssential brings together artists, arts freelancers, educators and professionals, venues, organisations, networks and anyone in between.
