Making Time for Equitable Change took place on Wednesday 21st September 2022 and was convened by Dr Cecilia Wee, Lead for the CVAN Fair and Equitable programme pilot year and co-author of the research report Fostering Equity in the Visual Arts and Rukhsana Jahangir, Co-ordinator for the CVAN Fair and Equitable programme. See below for recordings of the day on CVAN’s YouTube Channel.
The first session featured a presentation by Binita Walia, an experienced freelance Public Relations consultant, who helps companies and individuals raise their visibility through strategic PR and powerful storytelling. In this session Binita outlined strategies for fostering equity through communications work
The second session was a discussion event ‘Creating Equitable Partnerships’, facilitated by Jessica Taylor, Head of Programmes and Cynthia Silveira, both of International Curators Forum. With Bolanle Tajudeen, founder of Black Blossoms, and Seth Amani Scafe-Smith from RESOLVE Collective.
The third recording is of conversation between Amanda Parker and Dr Cecilia Wee on ‘What do we do when things go wrong?’- exploring the relationship between equity and the stories we tell ourselves and our peers about success, risk and how we learn. Amanda Parker is the Director of Policy and Communications at The Forward Institute, a non-profit that works with corporate industry to build responsible leadership. Formerly editor of Arts Professional magazine, Parker is the award-winning founder of Inc Arts UK, and campaigns for greater inclusion in the arts sector workforce.
Unfortunately our session on Disability and Governance with Tim Wheeler failed to record. In June 2022 Tim Wheeler published the report ‘’Place/s at the Table’: A review of disability and governance in the Cultural Sector’, exploring the benefits and barriers to the involvement of D/deaf, disabled and neurodivergent people as board members within the arts and cultural sector, commissioned by Clore Leadership.
